When Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) chaplain Mary Davis first met Tonya, she was in shock.
Weeks after her apartment complex went up in flames, Tonya was finally able to visit the site she once called home. She wasn’t prepared for what she saw—but thankfully, she wasn’t alone in her time of grief.
“I was so fortunate to have this,” Tonya said through tears, standing in the ashes of the complex she called her own for the past seven years.
In the wake of deadly California wildfires, BG-RRT chaplains are offering a ministry of presence to residents—many of whom are beginning to return to their charred homes to salvage whatever possible.
Chaplains walked slowly through the rubble with Tonya as they kept their eyes open for any items that looked familiar.
“She needed a shoulder, and chaplains were there to hug her, love on her, and just hold her while she wept,” said Davis.
Please pray for all those affected by these devastating fires to personally experience the truth chaplains are sharing—that only God can put the broken pieces of their lives back together.
