Thousands of people across the country are grappling with destruction and grief after deadly natural disasters—and a massive car crash—wreaked havoc over the course of one weekend.

Thousands of lives were turned upside down as a dangerous storm system recently tore through several Midwest states. Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains are offering the comfort of Jesus Christ.

At least 40 people were killed by dozens of tornadoes, four lost their lives due to wind-whipped wildfires, and eight people died in a 70-car pileup on a nearby Kansas interstate that was caused by a dust storm.

“So many are left reeling today and need our prayers,” Franklin Graham posted on social media. In staggering times like these, he offered a reminder from Psalm 46:1, that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (ESV).

More than 130 fires—spanning at least 40 counties in Oklahoma—burned 170,000 acres and destroyed nearly 300 buildings. Tens of thousands of residents were without power as a result of the tornadoes, and states of emergency were issued in Arkansas, Georgia, and Oklahoma.

“The dangerous outbreak of storms has impacted people in at least eight states. The recovery process will be long and difficult, but we want them to know they are not alone,” said Josh Holland, international director of BG-RRT.

“Crisis-trained chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team are in Missouri and Oklahoma to provide spiritual and emotional care to those affected by the destruction ... and to share a message of hope with them.”

Please pray for these grief-stricken residents as they process the immediate shock and trauma of all that has happened.
